DIY dust cover

Sewing instructions for a dust cover for your bernette machine

Whether you choose to make it fancy or simple, from sturdy denim or fine lace, with a tailor-made dust cover you can customise your bernette sewing machine to match your style–while at the same time protecting it from dust and scratches while you're not using it. And the optional pocket also allows you to store the foot pedal and cables conveniently so they never get lost in a drawer again!

This sewing project is simple enough for even less experienced sewers to accomplish in a few hours. The dust cover also offers you plenty of opportunities to try out different sewing techniques and embellishments, so whether you opt for decorative stitching, trimmings or appliqués, there are no limits to your creativity!

You will need:

  • 1 meter each of lining and outer fabric (you will probably have enough fabric left over to decorate your dust cover or to sew a matching pincushion) and iron-on interlining.
  • Matching sewing thread
  • Other items for embellishing, such as piping, trimming or lace
  • Scissors, a ruler and chalk
